150th Event
On the anniversary weekend of the Dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery and the Gettysburg Address, the Gettysburg Foundation lights over 3,500 luminary candles - one on each Civil War soldier’s grave in the National Cemetery - to remember and honor the sacrifices made by those who fought at Gettysburg. The candle lighting and reading of soldiers’ names is a solemn commemoration of the sacrifices made on this and other battlefields. For information contact the Gettysburg Foundation at 717-338-1243. Free to the public.
You can be a part of this tribute by sponsoring a candle or by volunteering. Luminary candles can be sponsored by individuals or groups for $18.63 per candle. In order for the sponsorships to be included in the program, they must be received by Oct. 28, 2011. Sponsorships may be made "in honor of" or "in memory of" a person or a group and are limited to 100 characters. Please visit our website for further information on how to volunteer or to sponsor a candle.
