Grand Opening - Gettysburg Seminary Ridge Museum
Gettysburg 150 - A Reflection of History Event
Monday, July 01, 2013
SOME RELICS OF THE PAST YOU CAN HOLD IN YOUR HAND. OTHERS YOU CAN WALK INSIDE.
Gettysburg's newest museum--the Seminary Ridge Museum--will open on July 1, 2013--150 years to the day that the Battle of Gettysburg began and was waged on the museum's grounds; the museum building itself became the battle's largest field hospital. The Museum, on the campus of Gettysburg's Lutheran Theological Seminary, will tell the story of the first day of the Battle, Civil War medicine and the role that faith played in the conflict. Grand opening details are being planned now! Check back for details.
The Grand Opening begins at 8 am, with cannon firing to commemorate the first shot of the Battle of Gettysburg. Remarks begin at 9:30 am, followed by the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting with ceremonial cannon firing around 10 a.m.
At 11 am, the Wildcat Regimental Band will perform a concert.
Throughout the day and the week, special historical presentations will be held in the chapel on the Seminary Campus, next to the museum building. The Virginia History Mobile exhibit will also be open to the public. Living History and encampments will be set up around the museum grounds and trail.
