An American Church Heritage Celebration
Sunday, July 07, 2013
Come commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg through music, drama and faith. Admission is free. Explore the stories of chaplains who guided their flocks of soldiers across Civil War battlefields through a presentation by historian and author Tom Vossler titled “The Shepherds and Their Armed Flock: Religion and Chaplains in the American Civil War.” Vossler is a Licensed Battlefield Guide and is the former director of the U.S. Army Military History Institute, Carlisle. Additionally, pianist Michael Matsinko and baritone Wayne Hill will offer Civil War period music, and the skit “St. James and Jennie Wade” will be performed by David Flesner and Kimberly McGlaughlin, of the Gettysburg Historical Church Tour’s performing group.
Apple pie and ice cream will be served at the conclusion of the program. Vossler will also have copies of his newly-released book A Field Guide to Gettysburg: Experiencing the Battlefield through Its History, Places, and People available for purchase and signing; proceeds benefit church renovations.
