Barker House Bed & Breakfast
This brick encased log house, is the second oldest structure in New Oxford and was a home of the prominent Hersh Family for over 150 years.
In late June 1863 a Confederate brigade under the command of General John B. Gordon, passed through Gettysburg on a march to Wrightsville and the Susquehanna. Advancing east on the York road, they stopped in New Oxford. Gordon and his officers entered the home of George and Nancy Hersh, now The Barker House. Mrs. Hersh refused to acknowledge General Gordon. She went upstairs to her bedroom, leaving the servants to serve food to the officers. Here General Gordon met with his staff and officers in the drawing room and planned their approach to York.
Today, accommodations include four guest rooms with private baths, queen, king and twin beds with sitting areas, fireplaces and central air. A completely furnished guest cottage is available for extended stays. Begin your day with coffee served in the gracious dining room, followed by a full hot breakfast.
The Barker House Bed & Breakfast is a member of The Inns of the Gettysburg Area.
