Heritage Pottery & Candle of Pennsylvania
Pottery still crafted by hand on the Potter's Wheel
Perhaps known best as Chambersburg's YANKEE CANDLE STORE, Pearson's offers the traveler a worthy day trip destination or certainly a very pleasant stop along the way. You will discover a 3-story restored turn-of-the-century Old Dutch Colonial Home situated along the Historic Lincoln Highway (Rt. 30). You will discover YANKEE CANDLES, locally crafted hardwood furniture, quilted items, crafts, framed prints, dried and artificial flowers, and many other mementos to remember your visit by; and authentic Pennsylvania Stoneware pottery "still crafted by hand on the potters wheel" right at Pearson's Pastimes.
As in centuries past, the pottery at Pearson's Pastimes is still transformed from a humble lump of clay into a vessel of purpose and value. By the Potter's hand each piece is gently formed on the wheel and continues onward through a number of decorative and refining processes. The culmination of many steps of creative labor comes to its peak when the kiln cools enough to extract its glistening contents.
While pottery is often admires, a more complete appreciation comes as it serves its purpose in daily life. At Pearson's Pastimes you will find artfully, yet practically designed mugs, bowls, salt shakers, spoon rests, egg separators, butter keepers, pie plates, bird bottles, and a variety of other creative items. You can feel confident that our stoneware pottery is quite durable, functional, microwave and food safe.
Demonstrations are free, by chance or appointment.
